Biography

Claudia Montoya Hernández, a Mexican flutist based in New York City, is committed to her artistry, continuously expanding her expertise in orchestral, chamber, and contemporary music.

Her performance venues include Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York City Center, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Claudia has performed with the Mannes Orchestra and various chamber music ensembles from the Mannes School of Music, as well as with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra in Michigan as acting co-principal, second flute, and piccolo.

She has participated in masterclasses with Karl-Heinz Schütz, Demarre McGill, Alberto Almarza, Leone Buyse, Wally Hase, and Marianne Gedigian. Recent performances include recitals with guitar at the American Yacht Club in Rye and the Young Musicians Forum Series in Schenectady.

Driven by her dedication to promoting Latin American culture and art, Claudia co-founded Tempo Öme, a non-profit duo dedicated to performing and promoting works by Latin American composers. Through Tempo Öme, she has presented recitals at venues across Mexico, including the Conservatorio de Música del Estado de México, Facultad de Artes Escénicas de la UAEMex, Museo Casa Grande, and Centro Cultural Elena Garro.

Claudia earned her Master’s degree in Music Performance from the Mannes School of Music, where she studied with Judith Mendenhall, principal flutist of the American Ballet Theatre. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Oakland University in Michigan, where she received the 2021 Outstanding Student in Instrumental Performance MaTilDa Award. During her undergraduate studies, Claudia studied with Sharon Sparrow and Jeffery Zook of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
